The US Virgin Islands (USVI) is an archipelago composed of 107 islands located at the edge of the Caribbean.

Like most of the islands found on the Caribbean the Virgin Islands is a popular tourist destination year round for its beautiful beaches, pleasant climate and excellent resorts. It is a favorite of tourists from the United States and because entry requirements are lax (no tourist visa for US residents), the currency and postage is the same, and English is spoken everywhere.

Among the 107 member islands though, only 10 are inhabited and only three are really widely known as prime tourist destinations – St Thomas, St John, and St Croix.

Despite its small size it is perhaps the most beautiful with a large portion of the entire island (two-thirds) remaining unspoiled since it is part of the Virgin Islands National Park. Nature takes center stage in this island so that naturally the most popular activity is hiking. The hikes only differ in the destination with most visitors hiking for a glimpse of the wildlife and breathtaking scenery and some heading for hidden cozy beaches and historical sites.

Some of the more famous attractions in St John include:

The petroglyphs on the Reef Bay Trail – the ancient rock carvings were made by the Taino Indians

Salt Pond Bay Beach

Annaberg Sugar Mill Ruins

Cruz Bay and its visitor center
