St John - US Virgin Islands

St John is the smallest of the Virgin Islands (only 28 square miles).

Despite its small size it is perhaps the most beautiful with a large portion of the entire island (two-thirds) remaining unspoiled since it is part of the Virgin Islands National Park. Nature takes center stage in this island so that naturally the most popular activity is hiking. The hikes only differ in the destination with most visitors hiking for a glimpse of the wildlife and breathtaking scenery and some heading for hidden cozy beaches and historical sites.

Some of the more famous attractions in St John include:

  • The petroglyphs on the Reef Bay Trail – the ancient rock carvings were made by the Taino Indians
  • Salt Pond Bay Beach
  • Annaberg Sugar Mill Ruins
  • Cruz Bay and its visitor center
